Intermittent fasting or water fasting

INTERMITTENT FASTING AND WATER FAST: WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES?

If you want to lose weight in a short period, you must know there are different strategies for fasting. Let’s see two of the most popular: intermittent fasting and water fasting. Have you ever heard of them?

What is intermittent fasting?

Intermittent fasting is an eating plan that switches between fasting and eating on a regular schedule. Differently from many diets, this type of fasting focuses almost exclusively, on when you eat, and not on what you eat.

With intermittent fasting, you only eat during a specific time of the day or a window of hours. Fasting for a certain number of hours each day or eating just one meal a couple of days a week can help your body burn fat so it is perfect if you want to lose weight fast. Scientific evidence shows numerous health benefits connected to it. Keep on reading to learn more.

Some researches carried out that after hours without food, the body exhausts its sugar stores and starts burning fat. This process is called metabolic switching and affects the brain: it has been demonstrated that it contributes to a longer life, a leaner body, and a sharper mind. It can also protect organs against chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart diseases, age-related neurodegenerative disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, and many types of cancers.

It can take two to four weeks before the body becomes used to intermittent fasting. You might feel hungry or cranky while you are adjusting to the new routine, but subjects who make it through the initial period tend to continue with the plan because they notice they feel better.

What can I eat while intermittent fasting?

During the time you’re not eating, water and zero-calorie beverages such as black coffee and tea are permitted. For what it concerns the eating routine, intermittent fasting allows almost any kind of foodstuff, as long as it’s nutritious and healthy, that means no fried or junk food. A keto diet is strongly recommended as it contains all the best nutrients to support the body during the intervals. As mentioned before, another way to lose weight fast is Water Fasting. Keep reading to find out more.

What is water fasting?

Under this type of fast, you consume no food as well as no water. This state is called autophagy and triggers your body into getting rid of old, useless parts of cells. You can either choose to do the standard water fasting consecutively (24 hours straight), or dry water fasting in even briefer intervals.

How is it done? In the weeks before your fast cut down on what you eat little by little. Begin by removing processed foods from your diet, then caffeine, then sugar. The week of your fast, transition to mostly vegetables and fruit, as these are water-based. Once you start to fast, remember you are only allowed to drink water and nothing else.

After it, you have to start reintroducing meals gradually. If you are not ready to start with a solid keto diet, try a liquid one, consisting of vegetable and fruit juices. Then, within a few hours or even a day, you might upgrade to veggies and fruits, then more solid foods.

Intermittent fasting

Similar to intermittent fasting, water fasting brings many benefits: it lowers the risk of heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, and inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It also supports weight loss and fosters longevity.

Both fasting ways are good for health if repeated periodically, but they are also risky because the organism is put under stress and could weaken for a short period, so before trying whichever schedule, remember to always check with your doctor which one is more suitable for your body.
